David Johnson is Professor of Soil Microbial Ecology in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at The University of Manchester. He is interested in how plants interact with soils and the myriad organisms that within them, and how perturbations related to environmental change affect these interactions. He is also interested in how diversity regulates ecosystem processes such as greenhouse gas emissions, especially in relation to plant-soil interactions. In MEaSURE, David will be focusing on quantifying key soil properties and processes in relation to attributes of urban green infrastructure, and over-seeing experiments to disentangle the mechanisms by which plant and soil biodiversity regulate the functioning of urban soils.
